You receive error code: 1606 when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update

If you are getting windows update error code 1606 then you can fix this error by the given process to fix error code 1606. When you are trying to update your windows operating system based computer then you may receive the “Error 1606 Could not access network location %APPDATA%” error message by which the update process becomes failed and you will not able to update your computer due to this error. If windows installer generates an error then the windows error code 1606 becomes generated. The windows update error code 1606, 0x80070646 and 646 all occurs due to windows installer. Solutions of windows update error code 1606


To fix this issue you have to start the registry window to start it click on start and then type regedit in the program search box and then point the regedit.exe that is in the program search list. Now right click on regedit.exe and click on run as administrator. If you are not logged in with admin then you have to provide the admin password. When the registry window will be open then locate the HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders sub keys. After locating it locates AppData that is in the details pane of registry editor. Check the value of the given sub keys should be %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming or not if not then in the details pane click on modify and then insert %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming in the value data box and after that click on ok. Now you have to close the registry editor and then try to install update again. If again you are getting windows update error code 1606 then change the value of the following registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
